Skiing
Skiing in the Pyrenees is relatively cheap and the facilities and conditions are
1st class. The season runs from December to May and is widely regarded
as having some of the best skiing in Europe and attracts demanding
skiers year after year. The excellent Vallter 2000 skiing resort in
the Pyrenees is an easy one and a half hours drive from L'Escala,
making a day out on the slopes a realistic possibility from the villa.
Andorra, the little independent tax free state between Spain and
France is well worth a visit, along with its well known pistes. |

A lot of people take the opportunity in winter of enjoying some tax free shopping
coupled with some fun in the the snow. |
Walking
Walking in the Costa Brava is increasing in popularity as more and
more ramblers discover the many paths and admire the beauty of a
countryside that is much more fertile than the most southerly coastal
regions and a better year round climate to enjoy. Heading south
from L'Escala there are footpaths into the rocky

promontory
leading to deserted beaches stretching the way south to L'Estartit.
Heading north there is a delightful path that takes you past the
ruins of Empuries and alongside the beautiful beaches along the
Bay of Roses. The well maintained path has lovely shady areas and
places to have a picnic. Inland from L'Escala are other paths and
quiet roads that lead you through the quiet countryside where you
can explore the many unspoilt small villages.

Cycling
The
area is ideal for cycling with smooth road surfaces and plenty of
flat land along the coast and inland as well as some challenging hilly
areas. The climate of Costa Brava is ideally suited to cycling, you
get all the benefits of the Spanish sun but without the intense heat
associated with the other Spanish Costa's (except July and August).

location makes an ideal autumn, winter or spring training base for
the enthusiasts.

of Americans racing in the pro peleton, call Girona home?
It is also superb for that relaxing cycling holiday where you want
to meander through the local countryside just enjoying the local sights,

There are several locations were
you can find good courts for
enjoying a few games of tennis in around L'Escala. There is
also the well run 'Club De Tennis L'Escala', centrally situated in
Carrer de L'Escorxador.

and Snorkelling
The Mediterranean sea and the coastline around L'Escala enables
you to enjoy a variety of water sports. Local water sports specialists

Horse
Riding
Horse riding is very popular and can be arranged from the
many stables to be found in the area. There are schools for beginners
and advanced riders offering a range of riding activities, including
hacking across marshland in the Aiguamolls natural park. |

Parachuting
The Empuriabrava aerodrome is home of the Costa Brava Parachuting
Centre, considered to be one of the world's leading centres. There
is also a school for micro-light and light aircraft pilots which offers
flights over the region. |

Fishing
Fishing
is still very popular in L'Escala, locals are regularly seen fishing
out to sea from the rocky areas and from the promenade between
Riell's and the old town.
There are organised boat trips available for sea fishing.

Quad Biking
The countryside and remote beach areas near L'Escala have made quad biking an increasingly popular activity. The local company www.goldenquads.com have bikes for hire and give instuction, they also have a mini - circuit for smaller children.
